Alprazolam has become one of the most prescribed medications in the U.S. for treating anxiety and panic disorders. Its calming effects make it especially helpful for patients suffering from acute anxiety episodes. However, because of its potential for dependence, the FDA regulates Alprazolam as a Schedule IV controlled substance.
